Tour de France
Belfort - Porrentruy
The route is 154 km long, 92 km of which are on Jurassic ground. The racers will be crossing all the regions of the Canton of Jura (Franches-Montagnes, the Delémont valley, Clos du Doubs, Ajoie), with a loop through the village of Glovelier (ideal for the spectators who can see the racers pass twice).
The end of the stage will be in steep terrain with four ascents (Goumois-Saignelégier, Glovelier-Saulcy, Boécourt-La Caquerelle and Col de la Croix) and is very demanding from an athletic point of view. Even though the stage is a short one, these difficult slopes make the end suspenseful. The race will hardly be decided right here, but one of the favorites might well find himself falling behind unexpectedly.
The Jurassic part of the route offers the spectators numerous opportunities to watch the racers during the ascents. Since the two towns Belfort and Porrentruy are very close, visitors can be present at the start and then go to the finish – why not by bike?
Col de la Croix
The most spectacular and probably decisive place of the stage. The ascent of 3.6 km is comparatively long, the average gradient being 9.7% and the maximum gradient 18%. It is situated at a strategic point about 10 km from the finish. The press is already talking about the „myth of the Col de la Croix“, which also had to be conquered on the occasion of the Tour de Romandie and the Tour de l'Avenir. This pass will rank in the first mountain grand-prix race category (1C), a challenge that determines the best climber in the stage (who then wears the distinctive red polka-dot jersey). The first rider to reach the summit receives 10 points, the second 8, the third 6, etc. The other three difficult Jura-region sections in the 8 July stage (the climbs at Saignelégier, Saulcy and La Caquerelle) will be placed in the second category (2C), giving 5, 3 and 2 points respectively). The points scale for exceptionally difficult (HC) passes (Izoard, Alpe d'Huez, Galibier, etc.) starts at 20 points and continues with 16, 12 and so on.
Finish line
The finish will be on the grounds of the former airfield between Porrentruy and Courtedoux (where the large infrastructure around the finish line can be accommodated). 800 meters after the "Dinosaur" roundabout, one can enjoy the beautiful view of the castle and the town.
